Never walk home alone after dark. You can always catch the Night Bus or walk home in a group of 3 or more.
The LUU Night Bus runs every night during term-time, for more information see the Night Bus page.
Free Attack Alarms. To help you stay safe, LUU provides free attack alarms. These are available from the Student Advice Centre and Nightline Office. Please pop in a pick one up.
Avoid using cashpoints when on your own or late at night. The Union building has two indoor cashpoints, which are safe to use.
When using cashpoints, put your money and cards safely away before leaving the machine.
Always try to avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
Keep to busy, well lit roads – short cuts are not worth the risk
If you are out late at night, make sure you get a licensed taxicab or get somebody you trust to take you home.
No cash to get home? Amber Cars on 0113 2306090 (phone free from LUU Reception) will take you home if you have no cash at hand. Just give them you student card and they will let you pay the next day at the LUU Reception.
Remember use flight rather than fight if possible.
Always use mobile phones in a safe environment and be aware of who is around you. If at all possible avoid using mobile phones when you are walking alone, even during the day.
Think before you drink. Alcohol can affect your perception of a situation. Stay with a group of friends who can look out for you, know your limits and plan how to get home before you set out.
Remember, your safety and well being is far more important than material belongings. Don’t compromise your safety for a mobile phone or another valuable item.
