At the end of 2004, we consulted with our members to discover what services they would like to see developing over the coming years, and how they would like us to support them while studying and living in Leeds. Based on this consultation a number of recommendations were drawn up on the common themes of the research results, and members were given the option to either agree or disagree with the proposals. 2,575 members voted, 93% of these voters agreed with the recommendations and it is these proposals that have formed the basis of the Union’s plan. The implementation of our plan started in July 2006 and will run until July 2009. The plan has allowed us to develop how we deliver our services to our members, giving staff and students alike clear goals to ensure that we are as effective as possible. Changes are already happening with major improvements to the placement of key services to increase accessibility; enhanced communication methods to keep members up to date and informed, along with new facilities and services being added to our building. The past year has seen a huge increase in the turnout to key democratic events, making a more representative and democratic environment for our membership. There has also been an increase in participation of extra-curricular activities, and developments in how we support our membership in person and online. There is still a long way to go but at only six months into the plan we have come a long way in a very short space of time. We will strive to ensure this momentum is sustained to allow us to deliver our vision by 2009. |
