How do I become a member of Leeds University Union?
When you join Leeds University, you automatically become a member of Leeds University Union. You can opt out of this process by ticking a box on your sign-up agreement form from the University. The Student Card issued to you by the University acts as your membership card for the Students Union.


How many members are there of Leeds University Union?
There are currently around 30,000 members of Leeds University Union!


Who runs the Union?
The Union is run by its members. They give their views, opinions and ideas to a group of elected representatives who oversee the running of the Union on the member’s behalf. These are Union Council and the Exec.


Who can stand for Election in these roles?
Any member of Leeds University Union can stand for these positions prior to previous experience within the Union.


Who funds the Union?
Leeds University Union is a self funding organization. Money generated from the shops, bars, club nights and events is used to fund development and upkeep of the building, offering members a range of free or reduced rate service. See the ‘Not for Profit’ page for more information.


Is the Union Part of the University?
We are independent from the University. However, we do work very closely with them and they provide us with funding as we are a key part of campus life. The Union ensure that our members get the best deal possible out of their fee's while at Leeds University.


When is the Union Building open?
The Union Building is open all year round. Opening times are (out of term times may vary):

    Monday to Saturday: 8.45am to 11.45pm
    Sunday: 2.00pm to 11.45pm

Who can use the building and the facilities in it?
The Union Building houses various shops, restaurants, bars and clubs as well as services such as the Student Advice Centre, Joblink and Students Activities. These are member only services designed to help students through their time at University.
There are however a number of venues within the Union Building which are available for hire to both members and non members. For more information see ‘Booking A Venue’. Conference facilities are also available, see ‘Conferencing at LUU


How can I hire space for my society in the Union Building?
There are a range of venues within the Union Building available for hire including a conference hall, meeting rooms, the Riley Smith Hall, or the Union bars and clubs.
The dedicated Union staff aim to assist you with booking venues and resources appropriate for your event.
For more information about booking the conference hall, a meeting room or the Riley Smith Hall contact The ARC on Tel: 0113 3801 413, email uniarc@leeds.ac.uk or take a trip up to ARC located on the second floor of the Union.
