The University's first XI men's football team led by Roy Sandeman secured a fantastic victory over the northern premier league winners and 2006 BUSA champions Loughborough on Saturday 23rd February at Weetwood. The match proved to be every bit as challenging as expected, with Loughborough demanding every ounce of commitment from the Leeds side.
Leeds took the lead in the first half through a penalty by captain Sandeman, whilst goalkeeper Tom Draper saved a Loughborough penalty to ensure the half-time score was 1-0.
Loughborogh equalised mid-way through the second half and although both sides had periods of pressure, neither were able to make the decisive breakthrough before extra time led to penalties.
Leeds kept their nerve in the shootout for a dramatic 4-2 win. Draper was a hero once again, saving twice. The successful Leeds penalty takers were Sandeman, Stef Colligan, Andy Battersby and club captain Dan McEwan.
The team's outstanding performance takes them into the BUSA Championship Quarter-Final against either Leeds Met or Scottish Champions Heriot-Watt. This match will take place at Weetwood on Wednesday 27th February.
