The Camapigns and Democracy Support team (CDS) provides support to all campaigns, democratic proceedures and representative systems.
CDS is here to help students change things they are unhappy about. This could be anything from a problem landlord or course module to the potential rise in student fees or climate change. Depending on what the issue CDS can help students affect it through the best possible means. This could be by submitting a referendum or union council motion, standing in an election, conducting a campaign or simply contacting your course rep.
In regards to representation, the Campaigns and Democracy Support team elects, trains and supports 27 faculty based student reps (UAR's). If you are interested in becoming a faculty representative, want to know who your faculty representative is or just want to know more about the UAR's you can contact the team who will be happy to help you.
As well as working with faculty based representatives the Campaigns and Democracy Support team works with Course Representatives who are elected within Departments. They deliver training and help promote them to their peers. There are up to 600 course representatives in the University at any time...
Each year students elect members to chair Union Assemblies and sit on Union Council. Union Council is the highest decision making body of the Union and is responsible for overseeing the work of the Executive Officers as well as the direction of the Union itself. The Campaigns and Democracy Support team provides training and support to these elected members to ensure that they can represent you to the best of their ability. If you want to know more about how Union Council and Union Assemblies work or how you can get involved then contact the Campaigns and Democracy Support team for more information.
