What is the role a NUS Conference Delegate?

Each spring NUS holds its Annual Conference, which lasts for 3 days. Around 1200 people attend the Conference, with over 80% of them being delegates.

The Annual Conference determines the policy of the NUS by debating motions submitted by constituent members. It also adopts policies by ratifying decisions taken at other campaign conferences and liberation conferences. It sets the campaigning agenda for the next year by determining policy areas.

Annual Conference also has the responsibility for electing most of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and other committees, and approving the annual accounts and the estimates for the year ahead. It is the forum where the NEC are ultimately held to account.

As a member of NUS, LUU is entitled to send 20 delegates on its behalf to the Conference.  There are some rules in the LUU constitution regarding NUS Conference, these are:

  • The delegation is open to all ordinary members and shall be decided by cross campus ballot

  • All Delegates must vote in line with Union policy as clarified by the delegation leader

  • The NUS National Conference delegation leader shall be elected by the members of Union Council.  Delegation leader should have attended a previous NUS National Conference

This year the Conference is the 27th-29th March in Blackpool and as a delegate all travel and accommodation expenses will be paid by LUU.
