Theme B - Listening to and informing our Members
What this means:
- Members have more control over the information they receive and feel informed about the things that affect their student life.
- Members don't have to come into the LUU building to use our services.
- We know what our members want and we’re delivering it.
To make this happen we will:
B 1. Communicate with members what they want, when they want, how they want

By July 2009
- We will have improved the accessibility and usability of the Union’s website to include content and navigation.
- We will have developed targeted information for diverse groups to include web content and via a consolidated database.
- We will have co-ordinated the communication of “good news” stories to the student media and via central Union communication.
- We will have introduced information points around campus.
- We will have implemented the first phase of a corporate communications strategy .
As a result of this:
- 75% of members will feel sufficiently informed .
- 45% of members will think it is very likely that the Union takes note of student opinion when planning policy.
- 10,000 of our members will have registered with the website .
By July 2010
- We will have reviewed the effectiveness of central Union communications .
- We will have trialed off campus communication .
- We will have implemented the second phase of a corporate communications strategy .
- We will have introduced departmental communications plans.
As a result of this:
- 80% of members will feel sufficiently informed.
- 50% of members will think it is very likely that the Union takes note of student opinion when planning policy.
- 15,000 of our members will be signed up to the database.
- Communication will no longer be a weakness in the strategic review.
B 2. Find out what members want for the future of the Union and inform them of our plans

By July 2009
- We will have taken a more systematic approach to the “Your Comments” scheme – taking action on the suggestions/complaints and feeding back to members.
- We will have reviewed how we involve our members in the strategic review.
- We will have developed a project plan for the involvement of members.
As a result of this:
- 70% of members will feel they are given the opportunity to feedback their ideas and suggestions and 55% will feel the Union listens.
By July 2010
- We will have conducted a strategic review leading to the new Union Plan.
As a result of this:
- 80% of members will feel they are given the opportunity to feedback their ideas and suggestions and 65% will feel the Union listens.
- The 2010 forward plan will have been adopted.
