Some helpful tips to keep you safe
Never walk home alone after dark. Walk home in a group of three or more. Keep to busy, well lit roads – short cuts are not worth the risk.
If you are out late at night, make sure you get a licensed taxicab or get somebody you trust to take you home. No cash to get home? Amber Cars on 0113 2306090 (phone free from LUU Reception) will take you home if you have no cash at hand. Just give them you student card and they will let you pay the next day at the LUU Reception.
You can catch the LUU Nightbus from the Union building. The LUU Nightbus runs every night during term time and for just 50p it will take you right to your door. You can book the Nightbus at the LUU reception.
To help you stay safe, LUU provides free attack alarms. These are available from the Student Executive Office, Receptions, Student Advice Centre and the Nightline Office. Please pop in a pick one up.
Avoid using cash machines when on your own or late at night. The Union building has four indoor cash machines which are safe to use. When using cash machines, put your money and cards safely away before leaving the machine and try to avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
Always use mobile phones in a safe environment and be aware of who is around you. If at all possible avoid using mobile phones when you are walking alone, even during the day. Remember, your safety and well being is far more important than material belongings. Don’t compromise your safety for a mobile phone or another valuable item.
Think before you drink. Alcohol can affect your perception of a situation. Stay with a group of friends who can look out for you, know your limits and plan how to get home before you set out.
