Thanks to £20k funding from Graduates Yorkshire (GY), through Yorkshire JobShops, Joblink was able to form a Course Related Part Time Work project. A 20 hour per week business development co-ordinator was hired in January 07 to liaise with local businesses, encourage them to hire students and work with academic departments and the student body to find suitable candidates to fill the vacancies.
Joblink succeeded in delivering the projects two year target in nine months, ensuring diversity of opportunities for students across all 22 schools. Joblink secured work for over 150 students in 2007 in course related jobs, and has delivered the most successful project in the region. The funded project, which is a continuation of the GY project, but with added contributions from the Careers Centre in terms of learning from the experience and carrying this forward into the pursuit of graduate options.
The Leeds University Careers Centre will work with Joblink to try to engage students who might use Job Link for financial reasons but who might be otherwise dis-engaged from the Careers Centre and the potential experiential benefits of part-time working.
The Careers Centre will also bring support to underemployed graduates in and around Leeds, obtaining non-graduate work through Joblink.
Students have been placed were offered the opportunity for personal development sessions to help them to make the most of the experience and recognise the skills they had gained

Information for Students
Joblink's Course Related Vacancies, now working in partnership with The Careers Centre, are here to provide a service for students to help them find part-time work that is course related. Working in an environment that runs in conjunction with your studies can only enhance your long term career opportunities. Not everything can be learnt in lectures. Employers want experience as well as a degree. Leeds University Careers will offer workshops to cover support in making applications for part-time work. Careers consultants will also offer individual support to student's pre, during and post work. A drop in service will also be available at Joblink on Fridays during term time, where a careers consultant will be available to cover application form/ CV checking/ interview prep and support.
Information for Employers
Continued funding from Leeds University Careers Centre means that we are still able to offer employers with Course Related jobs the opportunity to advertise to students free of charge. Our office is based within Leeds University Union which benefits an average daily footfall of 24,000 students. Ensuring that you get the maximum response to your advert placed with us.

Information for University Departments
Leeds University Union’s mission is to provide effective representation and a range of member led services that are of consistently high quality and embrace the needs of our members. Joblink, working in partnership with Leeds University Careers Centre, aim to source part time course related work for students. We will liaise with the Leeds business community and encourage more employers to hire students for quality part time and specialist projects. This will not only give our students valuable experience but will illustrate their opportunities to stay and develop in the Yorkshire and Humber area upon graduation.
"I am very happy to support this joint venture between the Careers Centre and Joblink, which will provide valuable work experience on a flexible basis for our students and a low-risk, entry-level opportunity for local employers who may not previously have engaged with the University."
