End of Term Reports from.....

The Sailing Club

  • This year began with a brand spanking new clubhouse due to the old one being burnt down. After using big steel containers as changing rooms last year it’s nice to have a real building with showers!

  • We had lots of interest at the Freshers Fair with a good mix of complete beginners and more experienced sailors.

  • Our campaign for new boats has continued this term

  • No sooner than we had returned to University, organising our annual sailing event, the Halloween Howler went into full swing. We managed to organise the entire event. We found teams, boats and umpires and organised catering, socials and accommodation for all the teams. With 24 teams from Universities across the country our event was the biggest University event. A great weekend was had by all and our old boys team came third.

  • At the first event of the season, the Bottled Firefly Trophy event at the National Team Racing Academy, West Kirby, our first team came 6th out of twenty and our freshers, who are new to team racing, came 13th.

  • At the Liverpool Lash our team came 6th out of eighteen teams, and the 5th University team.

  • At the Birmingham event our first team came 3rd and the 2nd team also won prizes.

  • The beginners sailing on Wednesdays has been going well. We have some new instructors helping us out and our complete beginners have learnt quickly and managed to not got too wet.
