Graduated in: Medicinal Chemistry

Also in the Union: I took part in societies; I was chair of Students Against the War Society and secretary of Unite Against Fascism. I sub-edited the Union paper 'Leeds Student', co-hosted the Blow-out show on LSRfm and was chair of the Union Council.

I stood for election because:

Democracy has suffered due to the lack of organised debate and communication. I hope to address the balance between the Union as an effective business and as vehicle for student campaigns.

What does the role of Equality and Diversity Officer involve?

Being responsible for ensuring LUU represents and addresses the needs of its diverse membership. To be responsible for representing students on all equality and diversity issues locally and nationally and working alongside the University's Equality and Diversity committee.

While in office I intend to:

  • Work with societies, assemblies and the local community on events such as Black History Month, International Culture Evening and Rise Against Racism week.

  • To work with Leeds University students and the NUS to campaign on a local and national level against the lifting of the cap on top up fees which is due to be reviewed by the Government in 2009.

  • To work with all liberation campaigns on relevant issues and assist the assembly chairs in achieving their objectives.
