Afro Carribean (ACS)

Whether it's Stevie Wonder, The golden stool of the Ashanti kingdom, or the issues in Darfur, we care!
Martin Luther king, Nelson Mandela and Cleopatra all have their names sewn into the fabrics of history due to what they achieved in their time, why shouldn't we care?

Is it old skool garage, RnB and hip hop OR bashment because I care!

The Leeds University Afro-Caribbean society cares about itall. Our aim is to celebrate, enlighten and project a positive image of Afro-Caribbean culture, music and literature. The history and diversity ofthe Afro-Caribbean’s at Leeds University adds a welcomed spice to the uni.
Activities include the best urban music nights in collaboration with other Northern ACS’s e.g. Leeds met Manchester Uni and Met, Bradford etc. Film screenings, ACS choir, 5-a-side team and numerous debates on fun issues such as who was a better rapper Biggie or Tupac and serious issues like "has south Africa really broken out of the chains of apartheid"? just to say a few . For only £5 for the years membership our joining fee remains one of the best in the Union.

Our society embraces and enjoys with those who are not only from Africa or the Caribbean islands but with any individual irrespectiveof race, ethnicity or religion that holds a genuine interest, passion and fascination for a culture that has remained a bright spark through the ages.

The ACS as a society acts as the flag bearer for a certain group of minority students at Leeds University. Working hand in hand with the Union and numerous other societies in the hope of creating a better environment for students and to inspire collective growth as people, friends and family.
