Stage Musical Society (SMS)
SMS is the university's Stage Musical Society whose aim is to stage two full length musicals each year and to have as much fun as possible in doing so.
Our two shows last year of 'Honk! the musical' and 'Fame the musical' all sold out over their respective one week run and proved a massive hit with the university viewers and indeed our outside audiences as well. Our aim is to produce large cast, fun and colourful shows that give people of all abilities and talent the opportunity to perform. In the past few years SMS has also performed 'Copacobana', 'Grease', 'The Wizard of Oz, 'Witches of Eastwick' and Gershwin's classic 'Crazy for You'.
The society is totally student run resulting in the direction, production, lighting, staging, choreography, vocal coaching and performing of each musical being down to whoever is brave enough to step forward and give it a go. Rehearsals take place on Friday evenings (followed by an essential cast night out in the unions club night Fruity) and Sunday afternoons.
Each show is produced to a very high standard but it remains SMS policy that if you want to have a go....you can; there are no exceptions within our society.
