United Nations Association (UNA)

The United Nations Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UNA-UK) is the UK's leading independent authority on the UN. As it is independent of the UN system it therefore receives no funding directly and is able to criticise the decisions of the UN.

Leeds UNA is one of the largest University based UN groups pursuing campaigns and highlighting issues that we as students feel passionate about. If you are the kind of person who enjoys being involved with wide-ranging events, from speakers from within and outside of the University, debates, educational programmes to teach local school children about the UN and of course the social gatherings (!). The UN Association works for global peace and justice through the UN by:

Seeking to ensure that the UN is central to the UK's foreign policy.
Campaigning in support of the UN particularly through our current priorities: conflict prevention, peacekeeping, sustainable development and human rights.
Educating for global citizenship through our educational resources and organising school and university Model UN events.
Supporting UN humanitarian initiatives including our Adopt-A-Minefield programme.

The UN Association provides:

Co-operation with UNAs in over 80 countries through our World Federation.
An informed contribution to the debate on strengthening the UN.
Policy formulation on UN related issues.
An urgent action network to lobby the Government, MPs and policy makers.
Advice and support for MPs through co-ordinating the UN Parliamentary Group.
An open and democratic structure enabling you to play an active part.
Opportunities to respond to UN issues through our local Branches or UN Youth & Student Association.
Information, analysis and comment on key UN issues.
Support for International Service projects
