Leeds’ Luso-Brazilian society is a friendly, fun-filled and diverse society which aims to celebrate and disseminate all things Brazilian! We welcome everyone: whether you’re a native Brasileiro or Brasileira; studying Portuguese; interested in the culture or know nothing about it... Don’t hesitate to join!

We have a little something for everyone… There are weekly classes in two types of popular dance in Brazil: Samba (Monday 5.00pm to 6.00pm) – a shimmy-filled and fast-paced dance performed in Carnavals worldwide. And Reggaeton (Monday 6.00pm to 7.00pm) – all about moving your hips in-line with the music! Whether you’re a beginner or professional, the classes are open for all and there’s even an opportunity to perform at the annual Dance show in March if you fancy it.

We also have a weekly Samba Drumming classes (Saturday 1.00pm to 3.00pm), taught by native Brazilian and local DJ Silvio. This funky style of drumming is a great way to develop a new talent. No past experience is necessary here either and there’s a chance to show of your skills when performing at the Society’s monthly ‘Carnaval’ night!

‘Carnaval’ is the society’s spectacular club night held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Faversham. Brazilian DJs Silvio and Fabio play all the best Brazilian and Latino music for a night of non-stop dancing! This year we will also continue collaborating with SLAPsoc to get the best out of the Latino culture so watch this space!

Lastly, semester two offers a short Portuguese course for all interested in learning a new language or want to brush up on the basics! More information on this will come nearer the time.
