Good Stuff!

LUU Student Activities do more than just the activity their name suggests. Our groups have other strings to their bows including charity fundraising and volunteering. This page details some of the good things that our groups have done.

Green Streets wins a city-wide award! (Posted: 30th January 2008)

Press Release: The student-led project Green Streets has been awarded a Community and City Pride Award, at the ceremony held on Friday 18th January 2008. The project which aims to reduce the amount of waste produced by students at the end of each academic year was awarded the prize for College/University Project of the Year. Last year the project collected in over 100 green bins worth of re-useable items and redistributed them to over 20 charity shops, hostels and shelters. Following last years success, Jami Dixon, the project's coordinator, is currently planning to make the project bigger and better for this coming change-over period.

Leeds University Band and Rock society raise £680 for The Teenage Cancer Trust! (Posted: 24th September 2007)

Press Release: On Saturday 22nd September, Leeds University Band and Rock societies joined together for a gig in the Cockpit. Not only did they completely fill the venue with people, they also raised £680 for The Teenage Cancer Trust! Each society chose two bands to play, all four of which were on top form, making the night one to remember for all those that were there. The Band Soc and Rock Soc committees would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in making the night a success.

Leeds Tramps 24-hour bounce! (Posted: 24th September 2007)

At 9.00am on the 21st March, Leeds University trampolining team set out to complete a 24-hour sponsored bounce.
Two trampolines were set out with ten people to each trampoline. This meant each person on the trampoline for five minutes at a time. That may not seem like very long but bouncing takes a lot of effort and many were still learning new moves at 2.00am in the morning! Put it this way, when it was all over most of slept until the next day (still feeling like they were bouncing in bed!).
In total, a massive £1136.64 was raised with all of that money going towards Cancer Research UK. By the end, the Sports Hall had literally been taken over by everyone bringing games, sleeping bags, speakers, lots of cheesy music and takeaway pizza for tea!
Leeds Tramps would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, especially Phil Yorke, Senior Duty Manager of the Sports Centre, who made our 24-hour bounce possible by volunteering to stay overnight!
