The University of Leeds American football team, The Celtics, compete in the British Universities American Football League (BUAFL). Last season the team were very successful making it to the conference semi-finals and the last eight in the country! Our aim for the year ahead is to improve on last season's record and advance further into the playoffs.
The Celtics are always looking for new talent. Everyone is welcome to come along to play regardless of past experience or knowledge of the game. Most players come in knowing almost nothing about the sport. Obviously the earlier you start, the greater the chance of being put on the field. Safety is important and nobody is put out on the pitch if they are a risk to themselves or others.
Although a certain level of commitment is expected, you do not have to play if you come to the training sessions. It is a great way to get fit and the atmosphere in and around the team is second to none. Last year everyone who turned up for games all played. As there is only one squad and so many positions available you are almost guaranteed a game.
Training takes place: Weetwood, Tuesday 7.00 to 9.00pm and Thursday 6.00pm to 8.00pm
Matches take place: Sunday afternoons
