There are so many volunteering opportunities in the community, there should be something to suit everyone's tastes. Projects run frequently throughout the year, so there will always be something to get involved in, whether it is every week or just once a term.
You do not need any experience to become an Action volunteer, we offer a wide range of training to ensure that you feel comfortable volunteering, including Child Protection, First Aid & Personal Care.
i) Projects
There are two types of projects: student-led and referral projects. Studen--led projects are run entirely by student coordinators and volunteers. The project coordinators are elected at the Action AGM, which is held in March. Action is always looking for new volunteers and ideas for new projects.
Referral projects are run by external groups in the community; in this situation Action acts as a link between the volunteering opportunities and the volunteers. Referral projects provide a far wider range of volunteering opportunities to volunteers.
ii) Driving, Publicity, Fundraising, Sponsorship, Socials
As well as the project volunteers we have a series of 'teams' which help our projects to run. These teams offer a different set of skills and experiences to those which projects offer, and any additional help in these areas is always greatly appreciated.
iii) Running Action itself
Action is run by an executive committee made up of volunteers. The 'exec' is elected at the AGM in March.
Throughout the year Action holds a series of events and socials. These are great opportunities to meet other volunteers, and find out about what is happening on other projects, and how you how you can become more involved.
