Hometown: Leeds
Also in the Union: I was the Editor of the Comment section in Leeds Student Newspaper, a departmental representative, and a student mentor as well as being involved with various Union societies and campaigning against genocide with friends and members of the Leeds community.
I stood for election because: I think the most important function of the Union is to provide effective representation and a space for students to get active and campaign for change on issues that they care about before anything else. Working on the student paper meant that I had regular contact with lots of students and was in a position to hear their thoughts on LUU and their grievances. I felt that representation and the values of the Union were being sacrificed for secondary needs and so I stood to see if I could actually do something about it.
While in office I intend to: Work with the Union’s societies to deliver successful and effective events and campaigns, such as Black History Month, to promote equality, raise awareness of discrimination and take action against it. I also intend to work on building up our liberation assemblies and those that represent marginalised groups of students to become strong, active and vocal in their activities, as well as working on projects such as the International Culture Evening and the Fees Campaign.
